Sugar Maple
Acer saccharum Marsh
This is one of our most valuable hardwood trees.
This species supplies both sap for maple syrup and wood.  Sugar Maples produce plain, Birdseye, Curly, Tiger and Blister lumbers. This species is a hard wood often used for furniture.
 
Sugar Maples are identified by the 5 lobed leaves.
It has U-shaped notches between the lobes.
The edges of the leaf are smooth.
The fruit length is ¾ to 1 ¼ inches.
Twigs show a shallow V-shape.
