The Stranahan Arboretum occupies land given to the University of Toledo in 1964 by Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Knight, Jr., for the development of an arboretum in memory of the late R.A. Stranahan, Sr., Toledo industrialist and civic leader.

The 47 acres of the Stranahan Arboretum encompass a cultivated collection of trees of the temperate regions of the world, a restored prairie, 160+ old forest, ravine area and two ponds.

Our missions are to:

·        provide and outdoor laboratory for expanded University studies and for the students of the community in botany, horticulture, and environmental studies;

·        provide an exhibition space for disciplines ranging from arts to zoology;

·        show citizens of this area the better hardy woody plants from the temperate regions of the world;

·         encourage environmentally sound land management practices through exhibits, talks and research.
